The purpose of this study is to identify the distributional characteristics of Korean copula ‘ida’ and to present the statistical tendency from the perspective of descriptive grammar. There have been few corpus linguistical approaches to ‘ida’ constructions although many unsolved issues in categorization of ‘ida’ and arguments in the history of Korean studies. This study presents highly occurred patterns of ‘ida’, analysing the lists of POS taggers and types in [n±1] of ‘ida’ in morphologically tagged Korean corpus. The result shows that there are distributional preference in [-1] and conjugational tendancy [+1], respectively. Furthermore we show that statistical analysis can be interpreted to mean that there are some conjugational similarities between ‘ida’ and ‘anida’. This study suggests that corpus linguistical approach to ‘ida’ constructions be an alternative solution to Korean POS system giving evidences both quantitatively and qualitatively.
